As Liverpool discovers the depth of Dominik Szoboszlai’s injury, he faces misery in the Carabao Cup final.
Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool will miss the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea due to a potential month-long injury. The midfielder from Hungary is expected to miss the match.
Dominik Szoboszlai, a midfielder for Liverpool, is expected to miss the Carabao Cup final, according to sources from his home country of Hungary.
Only a few days ago, Szoboszlai made his comeback from a hamstring injury he had suffered on New Year’s Day against Newcastle. He scored in the 4-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea and came off the bench in the 5-2 FA Cup victory over Norwich. He was not included in the team that played against Arsenal on Sunday, though, and a report from Index in Hungary states that he will now be out for three to four weeks.
The offensive midfielder will be absent from Liverpool’s encounter against Chelsea on February 25 due to injuries, according to reports that he might miss up to seven or eight games.
Before the Arsenal match, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp was unable to provide many details about Szoboszlai’s ailment other than to say that it seemed to be a recurrence of his prior problem.
“Dom felt pretty much in the same area as where he was injured before,” the man remarked. “He wasn’t involved in the match against Chelsea; he was fine. However, following the match, he experienced some discomfort, so we looked into it and decided that he wouldn’t be able to play in this match.
“There is no risk we can take. It was evident that he couldn’t be involved today, but we will have to wait for additional evaluation. That’s pretty much it.
Since joining Liverpool in the summer from RB Leipzig, Szoboszlai has had an incredible debut season and has played a significant role in the midfield makeover. In 28 club appearances, he scored his fifth goal against Chelsea. Due to his absence, Klopp chose Ryan Gravenberch, a Dutch midfielder, to start at the Emirates. However, Gravenberch struggled and was eventually substituted by Harvey Elliott, leading to the Reds’ only Premier League loss of the year.
Liverpool will be encouraged by the return of Wataru Endo, a midfielder from Japan, from the Asian Cup despite the loss of Szoboszlai. This comes ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture at Anfield against Burnley, a match in which Mo Salah is also expected to be considered. Right-back Conor Bradley, who missed the Arsenal loss due to his father’s passing, may also make a comeback.
