Eagles Bolster Secondary with Addition of Slot Cornerback Tyler Hall
The Philadelphia Eagles have made a significant move to address their slot cornerback position by signing Tyler Hall, who previously spent three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Slot cornerback has been a concern for the Eagles, particularly after Avonte Maddox suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Week 2 last season. In an attempt to find a suitable replacement, the team experimented with multiple players throughout the year. Bradley Roby, Kevin Byard, Eli Ricks, James Bradberry, and Reed Blankenship all saw significant playing time in the slot but failed to solidify their roles. Maddox himself struggled upon his return, and he was subsequently released. Both Roby and Byard, who logged the most snaps at slot corner for the team, are no longer on the roster.
Hall joins the Eagles after starting his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2020. During his rookie year, he primarily played on special teams, logging 125 out of his 131 snaps in that capacity. He moved to the Raiders in his second season, where he continued to contribute solely on special teams. In his third season, Hall played in seven games (starting three), with 129 out of his 219 defensive snaps coming from playing in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus.
In 2023, Hall played in 11 games for Las Vegas and spent a majority of his defensive snaps (129 out of 160) lining up as a slot corner. His performances over the past two seasons earned him favorable grades from PFF—a notable achievement considering he went undrafted out of Wyoming. In 2022, he received an overall grade of 86.9 and a coverage grade of 86.3. Last season saw him earn an overall grade of 72.7 and a coverage grade of 71.9.
At just 25 years old and having started as a three-year starter at Wyoming during college, where he recorded four career interceptions., Hall brings youth and potential to Philadelphia’s secondary.
With this acquisition, it remains to be seen how Hall will fare with his new team; however, it is clear that Eagles’ coaching staff sees promise in him as they seek stability at slot cornerback heading into next season
