Ahead of the Europa League match, Brighton supporters were attacked in Rome during a fan revolt.
Prior to Brighton’s Europa League match, two Brighton supporters were stabbed in Rome. Before the Seagulls’ matchup with Roma in the round of 16 on Thursday night, supporters of the team had descended upon the Italian city.
There have been allegations of fan violence all across the city, and two supporters have been hospitalized for injuries sustained in one attack. A group of seven masked people robbed the fans at midnight, according to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. It is anticipated that both fans will leave the hospital today.
The incident took place a little over four kilometers from the Stadio Olimpico, close to the city’s well-known old Roman Colosseum. In addition to advising supporters not to wear club colors when traveling to Italy, Brighton is collaborating with the British consulate.
When the Seagulls competed in a European competition for the first time, they placed first in Group B. Roma placed second in Group G, on the other hand. The Serie A team lost 4-1 on penalties to eventual winners Sevilla in the previous year’s campaign, finishing as runners-up.
Before the match, Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi declared, “We will give it a go.” We shall act modestly. We are aware of our actions throughout the past ninety-six months. We are creating history, something this club has never done before.”
Two Roma-Brighton supporters were robbed and wounded in the Monti neighborhood. The incident happened at around midnight. A nearby restaurant owner helps the injured
Both robberies and stabbings occurred. Two Brighton supporters who traveled to Rome for this evening’s Europa League encounter experienced some scary experiences last night. A group of seven individuals with hooded faces ambushed the two in the Monti district at around midnight.
The English were robbed of their pouches carrying documents and wallets after suffering three stabbing wounds to their legs in the Via Cavour. The two fans were discovered bleeding on the ground, and it was the restaurateur in Monte Polacco who initially raised the alarm. In an attempt to identify the criminals, the Esquilino police station intervened at the scene and is now looking through the local cameras.
With three minor stab wounds to his left thigh, one of the two Englishmen, who was 28 years old, was sent to San Giovanni Hospital under yellow alert. The other 29-year-old had multiple stab wounds to his right thigh when 118 took him to the Umberto Primo Polyclinic.
