Grant Williams, a former Vol, assisted the Charlotte Hornets in ending a 2006-era run.
Since joining the Hornets, Williams, a native of Charlotte, has averaged 18.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Since adding Williams, Charlotte has a 4-0 record.
Williams scored a career-high 24 points on Thursday night to help the Hornets defeat the Utah Jazz on the road for the first time since the 2005โ06 campaign.
When the team was still known as the Bobcats, Charlotte had its last victory in Utah.
Steve Clifford, the head coach of the Hornets, attributes Charlotte’s recent success to Williams, telling reporters that the former Vol is akin to a middle linebacker in terms of defensive organization.
