Ryan Dempster, a former Cubs starting pitcher, is asking $2.5 million for a Lakeview property.
This week, retired Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Dempster, a talk show presenter and analyst on Marquee Sports Network, put his 5,650-square-foot, six-bedroom Lakeview home back on the market, this time asking $2.45 million.
Pitching for the Cubs from 2004 to 2012, Dempster, 46, announced his retirement from baseball in 2014. After taking a position in the Cubs front office, he joined the MLB Network as an analyst and hosted the late-night discussion show “Off the Mound with Ryan Dempster” on the Cubs’ Marquee Sports Network.
In 2014, Dempster paid $1.95 million for a brand-new home in Lakeview. In 2021, he advertised it as a pocket listing for $2.25 million before pulling it off the market. On Thursday, he relisted it for $2.45 million as a pocket listing before putting it on the market the next day.
The two-story home boasts a large center island, a butler’s pantry, Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Miele appliances, four fireplaces, hardwood floors, high ceilings, custom millwork, and cabinetry. The living room features moldings and a marble fireplace, while the private office has a wall of built-in shelving. It also features a main master suite with a dual vanity and an expansive steam shower, a great room with custom built-ins and vaulted ceilings, and a lower level with an exercise area, a guest suite, a wet bar, an oversized game room, and a temperature-controlled wine cellar.
A planted yard, a brick patio, an outdoor fireplace, a deck, and an enormous three-car garage with a full attic are all located outside on the extra-wide property.
According to Elite Street, Dempster and his spouse are living in Chicago and are merely “changing up their footprint,” according to listing agent Jeffrey Lowe of Compass.
It’s a fantastic house, Lowe remarked. They upgraded it fantastically after purchasing it as new construction. It is located in Lakeview on a broad lot on a lovely street.
In the 2022 tax year, the house’s property tax bill was $36,382.
Before, in June 2021, Dempster paid $2.12 million for a French Provincial-style home in Wilmette, which he sold six weeks later for $2.13 million. Prior to that, in 2014, he sold a 5,300-square-foot, five-bedroom Lakeview home for $1.76 million. He also gave his ex-wife a deed to a larger Lakeview home they had purchased in 2008 for $2.69 million as part of their divorce. Dempster additionally sold a Lakeview apartment in 2020 for $525,000. That condo has been his since he paid $480,000 for it in 2009.
