“We’re excited to have another great destination and event to start our 2024–25 season—for our team and for our FAMS,” said South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley. “The Hall of Fame Series has become an incredible showcase for the country’s best teams in both men’s and women’s basketball, and we’re looking forward to adding our names to that slate this season. After hosting the Las Vegas Aces for a preseason game in Columbia this spring, it’s only fitting that we get to go to Las Vegas to launch our season this fall!”
The Gamecocks are coming off a spectacular previous season, highlighted by a historic opening game in Paris, where they kicked off their campaign with one of 38 consecutive victories, ultimately culminating in the 2024 National Championship.
As they gear up for the new season, South Carolina boasts a formidable roster, including three of their four All-SEC performers returning to the lineup. This includes All-American guard Te-Hina Paopao, who has been a standout player with her scoring and playmaking abilities. Raven Johnson, an NCAA Albany 1 Regional All-Tournament selection, will also be back, adding depth and experience to the team’s backcourt. Additionally, SEC Tournament MVP MiLaysia Fulwiley and NCAA Final Four All-Tournament selection Tessa Johnson are expected to play pivotal roles in the team’s success.
The Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas is an ideal platform for the Gamecocks to showcase their talent against a strong Michigan team. The Wolverines, known for their competitive spirit and tactical prowess, will provide a challenging start to South Carolina’s season. This matchup promises to be a thrilling encounter, setting the tone for what could be another remarkable season for the Gamecocks.
Coach Dawn Staley’s leadership and strategic acumen have been instrumental in South Carolina’s dominance in recent years. Her ability to develop talent and build a cohesive unit has consistently placed the Gamecocks among the elite teams in women’s college basketball. The upcoming season opener in Las Vegas is not just a game but a statement of intent, as South Carolina aims to defend its title and continue its legacy of excellence.
Fans and basketball enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting this clash, which is set to be a highlight of the early college basketball season. The Hall of Fame Series offers a unique opportunity to see some of the best talent in the sport compete on a grand stage, and the Gamecocks versus Wolverines matchup is expected to be a showcase of high-caliber basketball.
