NFL Rumors: Following the Cardinals’ release, the Eagles have inquired about Zach Ertz.
They might not, however, be improving the roster. Additionally, the has “inquired on old friend Zach Ertz, who is still evaluating options as of this afternoon, per source,” as reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The teams vying for the veteran tight end’s signature were previously reported by B/R’s Jordan Schultz to be the Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs:
Before becoming a free agent and clearing waivers, 33-year-old Zach Ertz requested and was granted his release from the struggling Arizona Cardinals this season.
In 2021, the Eagles decided to trade him since Dallas Goedert was starting to play a bigger part in the offense. However, bringing back Ertz would make a lot of sense given that Goedert is currently sidelined and the Eagles are supposedly eager to surround Jalen Hurts with as many weapons as possible in order to prepare for a potential Super Bowl run.
The Philly offense would be extremely frightening if Hurts were surrounded by Goedert, Ertz, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Julio Jones, and DeAndre Swift in addition to what is arguably the best offensive line in football.
However, other candidates would also make sense. One such team would be the Ravens, who lost a significant portion of their offensive identity when tight end Mark Andrews suffered a cracked fibula and ankle ligament damage, possibly ending his season.
While Ertz wouldn’t be an exact match for Andrews, he would provide star quarterback Lamar Jackson with an additional weapon in the passing game as the Ravens prepare to make their own Super Bowl run.
