Good news: Royce O’Neale was acquired by the Suns, Grizzlies, and Nets in a three-team transaction.
An experienced 3-and-D player was added to the Suns roster. In a deal that was agreed with Memphis and Brooklyn, Phoenix sent Royce O’Neale to the Suns.
What the trade means: O’Neale, who is averaging 7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds over 49 games this season, gives Phoenix another member of its bench. The seven-year NBA veteran has a lifetime 3-point shooting percentage of 38.1% and is a reliable wing defender.
Roddy, a 6-foot-4 forward in his second NBA season, is also added by the Suns. This season, Roddy is averaging 8.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 48 games with Memphis.
Watanabe, a 6-foot-9 forward who began his career with Memphis, returns to the Grizzlies. Despite making a career-high 44.4% of his 3-pointers last season, he is only averaging 3.6 points per game and shooting 32% from beyond the arc.
In a related move, the Nets asked for Thaddeus Young, a forward they had acquired earlier in the day along with Dennis Schroder, to be placed on waivers.
