New Left Hander Signed by the Houston Astros to Deal
This offseason, the Houston Astros added to their roster when they inked a deal with a former top prospect. Based on some of the remarks general manager Dana Brown has made thus far at the Winter Meetings, there shouldn’t be high expectations that the Houston Astros will accomplish much this offseason.
He did make an odd statement when he said that things are “heating up” in free agency; perhaps they are aiming to add someone to help with their backup catching and bullpen needs.
According to the MLB.com players’ transaction page, the Astros also signed left-handed pitcher Brendalyn Marquez to a minor league contract, indicating that Brown is still searching for players who can have an impact on their Major League roster.
Accidents and diseasesIn 2015, Marquez was first signed by the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent. After posting a 9-5 record with a 3.13 ERA in 22 starts during the 2019 season, he was ranked as one of the organization’s Top-100 prospects.
