“I wasn’t satisfied with my players’ performance.” Cavin Johnson bemoans the lack of retribution received by Royal Am from Amakhosi, while John Maduka expresses disappointment.
In the Premier Soccer League on Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs lost two points against Royal AM due to a lackluster effort.
After traveling to Harry Gwala Stadium, Amakhosi was unable to defeat the KwaZulu-Natal team in a goalless tie.
Chiefs unable to move up the standings despite numerous missed opportunities and strong defense from Royal AM. Direct remarks from Cavin Johnson, the Amakhosi temporary coach, and John Maduka of Royal AM are featured on GOAL.
Johnson laments Amakhosi
“We had four one-on-one opportunities, and Ashley (Du Preez) should have scored the goals, but we didn’t get it,” Johnson said to SuperSport. “I don’t know what I need to say,” Johnson said. Did we perform well today, though? No, I don’t believe that. I’m not satisfied with how well my team performed. Our team is much superior than what we demonstrated today, in my opinion,” he continued.
The main takeaway right now is that we need to improve a little bit on the ball. Although I believe the playing conditions were ideal for football, it appeared that my players weren’t skilled enough to play in those circumstances.
“I think we could do better if it were 35 degrees and the sun was shining, but even with that, we would need to start over and make sure both teams’ players knew where they were on the field so they could score goals, but more importantly, they would have better opportunities to do so.
Maduka in a catch-22 situation
Maduka said, “If you look at the game itself, we had good combination play in the first half and created good chances in the final third. Unfortunately, we were not clinical enough, but you know, good play.”
“I believe we faltered a little bit in the second half, particularly in terms of trying to score more goals in the same manner that we did in the first. However, we had a chance to score two or three goals in the first half, but it didn’t work out.”

“And that’s what happened todayโwe defended as a team, and the Chiefs got those kinds of chances because we made mistakes and didn’t make the best decisions,โ he said.
However, really strong defenseโsomething to learn from and improve upon from this game. One of the concerns moving forward is consistency; we shouldn’t limit our play to huge games like this one. We’ll win a ton of games if we play every game this way, he said in closing.
