After going winless in 2024, Andy Murray said of his career, “I won’t quit.”
Andy Murray, 36, has recently lost in the first round of the Australian Open, Brisbane International, and Open Sud de France. The 36-year-old has dismissed rumors on social media that it might be time for him to give up tennis.
The 36-year-old, two-time Wimbledon champion, lost this week in France and was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open and Brisbane International. As a result, he is now winless in 2024.
In his Open Sud of France debut, Murray gave up a one-set lead to Benoit Paire and lost 6-2 6-7 3-6. Murray hasn’t triumphed in a competitive match since defeating Yannick Hanfmann in Basel in October 2023.
Some questioned if Murray should retire from competitive tennis after the match, but the Scot has vowed to continue fighting. In response to a tweet on the previous Twitter platform X, Murray said: “Dulling my heritage? Please help me. I’ll grant you that; I’m going through a horrible time right now.
“Most individuals in my circumstances would give up and quit right away. But I’m not like most people, and I don’t think the same way. I’m not going to give up. I’m going to keep pushing myself to give the best performances I know I’m capable of.”
Andy Roddick, a former US Open champion, backed Murray on social media, saying: “Preach! Imagine giving your advice on what to chose for employment and when to do it to a successful, well-known adult. One cannot erase a legacy. Achievement endures forever.
