In 2024, ESPN predicts Ole Miss will participate in the 12-team college football playoff.
The journal asked six analysts to take part in a panel debate regarding which teams would make it to the new playoff in 2024. Ole Miss was mentioned in each of the six forecasts.
The article also speculated on which teams, in addition to the Rebels, may make their first-ever postseason appearances: the USC Trojans, Penn State Nittany Lions, Arizona Wildcats, and Missouri Tigers.
Chris Low discussed Ole Miss’s chances this autumn as follows:
“In two of the previous three seasons, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have made it close to the playoffs. In 2024, the Rebels are ready to break down that door.Ole Miss’s program has flourished under Kiffin’s direction, and as far as schedules go for 2024, the Rebels seem to have one of the easier ones in the SEC.”
These are each analyst’s predicted seeds and pairings for Ole Miss in this expanded College Football Playoff field.
David Hale: Ole Miss vs. Alabama, 8.
Chris Low: Notre Dame vs. Ole Miss, 8.
Bill Connelly: 9. Michigan vs. 8. Ole Miss
Andrea Adelson: 6. Florida State vs. 11. Ole Miss
Harry Lyles Jr.: 10. Alabama vs. 7. Ole Miss
Heather Dinich: 6. 11 USC vs. Ole Miss
Even though none of these predictions have the Rebels receiving a first-round bye, just making it to the postseason would rank among the team’s greatest achievements in history. Ole Miss’s historic 11-win season in 2023, which included a Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl victory over Penn State, another school predicted to make the playoffs this season, makes it appear quite likely to happen.
