Iowa Hawkeyes’ Guard Dasonte Bowen Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Bowen’s performance during the 2023–24 men’s college basketball season saw him average 4.4 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game. As a product of Brewster Academy, he shot at an overall percentage of 39.6% from the field, with a three-point shooting average of 22.2%, and an impressive free throw shooting percentage of 84.6%.
At the beginning of this season, Bowen held the position of starting point guard for Iowa but experienced a decline in minutes as time went on. His last appearance in a game was on February 14th, during Iowa’s unfortunate loss to Maryland with a final score of 78-66.
In late February, head coach Fran McCaffery announced that Bowen’s season would likely come to an end due to an ongoing knee injury that required surgery.
“Dasonte is a tough kid who has been trying to play through it,” said McCaffery at the time. “However, it got to a point where we determined surgery was necessary.”
In light of recent events, Bowen took to social media platform X to express his gratitude for his time at Iowa and announce his decision regarding his future.
“I want to express my gratitude toward God for giving me the opportunity to play at such a high level while also receiving an exceptional education,” wrote Bowen. “These past two years at the University of Iowa have been incredibly meaningful to me, as I have built strong relationships with my coaches and teammates that will last forever.”
He continued by stating: “As I move forward into this next chapter of my life, I must prioritize what is best for my personal growth and future endeavors. With that being said, I have officially entered my name into the transfer portal.”
When he joined Iowa City as part of their program, he initially signed on as a three-star recruit, according to reputable source 247Sports. They ranked him as No. 26 among point guards nationwide and identified him as one of Massachusetts’ top players in the class of 2022.
