Iowa women’s basketball head coach Jan Jensen will take over in 2019-20.
The next head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes will be associate head coach Jan Jensen, who was selected less than twenty minutes after legendary head coach Lisa Bluder announced her retirement.
Having assisted Bluder at Iowa for the entirety of his term, Jensen assumes leadership. During the 2024โ25 women’s collegiate basketball season, Jensen, a native of Kimballton, Iowa, will begin her 25th year as a Hawkeye coach.
Jensen has long been adored by her players and well-respected in coaching circles for her diligent recruiting efforts and her status as one of the best post coaches in women’s college basketball.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have had such an amazing journey with Lisa. During the 33 years that I had the honor of working with her, that ride began when I was her player. For her companionship, leadership,, and guidance, Lisa is greatly appreciated. I’m thankful for all the memories we made and really proud of everything we managed to accomplish.
“I am quite happy to take on this new responsibility and would like to express my gratitude to President Wilson and Beth (Goetz) for giving me the chance to oversee this initiative. I have a deep affection for The University of Iowa, and I’m thrilled to keep expanding on our achievements. “I am incredibly proud to be a part of this unique university, and we have unparalleled support from our administration, donors, alumni, and fans in every way,” Jensen stated in a news release from the University of Iowa.
Iowa has made 22 playoff appearances under Jensen’s direction, including 18 NCAA Tournaments. Her contribution to Iowa’s five Big Ten Tournament victories, including the last three, is noteworthy.
Along with two Big Ten regular-season titles, back-to-back Final Four and national championship games (2023, 2024), three trips to the Elite Eight (2019, 2023, 2024), and five Sweet 16 appearances (2015, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024), Jensen has also guided Iowa to these accomplishments.
