After Moroka Swallows’ divorce, former Kaizer Chiefs coach Komphela speaks out, saying, “It is illegal to enter an exit.”
The Swallows announced on Monday, February 19, the departure of head coach Komphela, who had come over from Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of the season. The choice was made a few weeks after the Dube Birds decided to cut players—including Andile Jali—who they believed had a negative impact on the squad.
Since the players staged a go-slow due to what they perceived as unfulfilled financial promises by the management, Swallows have been applying the whip. The PSL was then tarnished by Amaswaiswai when they failed to show up for matches against Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns, respectively.
Komphela disclosed in a recent interview that he had not received a request from management to carry on with his duties during the Africa Cup of Nations break. Following his departure, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach expressed gratitude to everyone he had collaborated with and requested that the team adequately support the current technical bench.
“May I kindly take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing perseverance and professionalism,” the former Sundowns coach wrote in a message to the players and staff of the Swallows.
“You shown unselfish perseverance, no matter what the situation. Even though there were times when none of us knew how to respond to you, you always handled yourselves with grace, dignity, pride, and incredible respect. We appreciate your respect for the supporters, the league, and the game.
“You will always be respected and in my thoughts. The anticipation and the painfully terrible uncertainties finally come to an end, at least, at least. May you continue to be blessed indefinitely. Regardless of the situation, you already have 19 points to work with.
“Would you please grant me Please assist Coaches Musa Nyatama, Ditheko Mototo, and Thela Ngobeni in the same way. I wish my guys luck on the sensitive work that lies ahead. Put your all into it. It is forbidden to go through an exit.
With 19 points from 17 games, Swallows are now six points above the relegation zone in 13th place. They need to improve if they want to stay out of the danger zone, which is currently inhabited by Cape Town Spurs, who are at the bottom of the league, and Richards Bay, who are at 15 points.
Now, Komphela is going to spread his wings in the hopes of landing a new team to carry on with his coaching career.
