‘It’s Crazy,’ says Marvin Harrison Jr., who was ‘Blessed’ to lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to victory.
“The rushing one,” Marvin Harrison Jr. stated emphatically. “We’ve called that play three times in my career, and the first two times I came up short.” This time, I made it into [the end zone]. It was my first running touchdown, so it was extra exciting.”
The in question play occurred during the Buckeyes’ first drive. They needed to set the tone early to assure a home victory, and they did so. An eight-play, 75-yard drive did the trick, but it was Harrison Jr.’s first-ever rushing touchdown that put the game on the board. He didn’t stop there, though.
By the end of the game, Harrison Jr. had scored three of the Buckeyes’ five touchdownsย two receiving and one rushingย while also becoming the first Ohio State receiver in school history to have multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He was relieved to be in his own company.
“It’s crazy,” stated Harrison Jr. “All honor and glory to God.” He has endowed me with many distinct gifts, including the ability to perform such a feat. It means a lot to be the first person in Ohio State history to do anything, especially as a receiver.”
Harrison Jr.’s season has been defined by his 1,063 yards and 12 touchdowns. Not only has he established himself as a top target for Kyle McCord, but he has also established himself as one of college football’s greatest, and he will almost certainly join the Buckeyes’ elite list of NFL receivers by the time he is ready to declare for the Draft.
And he attributes some of that to being back on the field alongside McCord, his former high school teammate. “We played with each other in high school, but it’s totally different in college,” Harrison Jr. went on to say. “The players are better, and the schemes are unique.” We’re still adjusting to one other and attempting to get on the same page.”
“It’s been great, though,” he adds. “It’s definitely been super exciting to play with him again, and great to continue our connection on the field.” That link is visible, and it’s as apparent as day, as Buckeyes coach Ryan Day observed during his postgame press conference, particularly in terms of his best receiver’s ability.
“Marvin made some big-time plays,” remarked Day. “He definitely energized us. The [rushing touchdown] was quite effectively performed in my opinion. Marvin is a unique player. We’ll always find a way to get him the ball.”
That has also been obvious thus far. Harrison Jr. is a big-time weapon for the Buckeyes and will remain so despite receiving Heisman-level plaudits for his consistent good performances. But he’s unconcerned about it. He only wants to win.”I just wanted to beat the team up north and go to a Big Ten Championship,” Harrison, 16, said. “I’m thankful to even be in the conversation.”
