Jayson Tatum: The most talented and selfless team this year is the Celtics
The Celtics are able to get the most out of their combined skill set and the position of the top six players in their individual careers. The Boston Celtics have the best record in the NBA right now, at 35-10. In the NBA All-Star voting, each member of their starting lineup—Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday—finished among the top 10 in their respective categories.
Tatum referred to the current Celtics as the most skilled team he has ever been a part of in an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape.
“It is by far the most talented team I have ever been on.” This team is the most giving ever. Not that past teams I’ve been on weren’t talented or self-centered; rather, it’s just our talent levels one through five and our professional status. We have Jrue [Holiday], a former champion. JB [Jaylen Brown] made All-NBA, and we have guys who have made All-Star games. Guys have gotten paid, I’ve been on the All-NBA first team for a few years running, and we all truly just do whatever it takes every night to win.
Tatum also underlined that this team’s ability to capitalize on having what is regarded as the most talented starting six players around has required sacrifice, with Al Horford providing influential two-way play off the bench and being prepared to step into the starting lineup in the event that someone is unavailable. And we’re all making sacrifices. We are not averaging as much as we were the previous year. While no one is hitting career-high numbers, we are all sharing the money, eating, winning, and enjoying ourselves in the process.
Tatum was chosen to start in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game this week. The complete roster of All-Stars will be unveiled on February 1.
