Luka Doncic is out for the Mavericks against the Rockets
Marc Stein reports that the Mavs want to rule Doncic out of Friday’s game against the Rockets because of a quad ailment. The squad will still play without Dereck Lively II (ankle) and Kyrie Irving (heel), neither of whom has a clear comeback date as of yet.
“Dallas’ Luka Doncic will be sidelined for Friday’s game in Houston by a quad injury, league sources say,” Stein stated in an email. “For the Mavericks, Kyrie Irving (ankle) and Dereck Lively II (heel) are still sidelined. In December, Doncic played an average of 40.4 minutes per game. Doncic, along with Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic, is still a top contender for the 2024 NBA MVP award after averaging 32.7 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.4 rebounds in 26 games this season.
Doncic finished with 28 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists in 44 minutes during the Mavs’ 120-111 loss against the Los Angeles Clippers. The squad came close to overturning a 22-point deficit, but they were unable to perform well enough in crucial moments to overcome Kawhi Leonard’s superior late-game performance.
The Mavericks will play the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, the second night of a back-to-back, right after playing the Rockets.
