Tennis champion from the US who was traumatized is saved
Tanya Okpala, a former professional tennis champion, was brought into jail by the Anambra State government for rehabilitation after being found living on the streets of Awka.
Okpala, 41, visited the United States of America, USA, a few years ago and afterwards became interested in drug use there. She was even believed to have passed away before being spotted on Sunday near the busy Abakaliki street in the capital of Anambra State, which is typically frequented by drug users.
Her acquaintances promptly notified Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the state commissioner for women and children affairs, who dispatched representatives from her ministry to transport her to a rehabilitation facility. Obinabo claims that the woman is already receiving medical care. She claimed that after hearing the lady’s pitiful tale, Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife Nonye had vowed to provide her with the greatest medical and psychological care possible to help her get back to her regular life.
Yes, she has been brought to a rehabilitation facility by us. Her case involves drugs and frustration, and based on our interactions, it appears that she is aware of her situation and wants to get help. She lamented that she was unable to provide her child with the same level of nurturing that her own parents had provided.
Obinabo stated, “The Governor and First Lady have expressed a special interest in her matter and have pledged to do whatever it takes to enable her to have a regular life once more.
The Nigeria Olympic Committee’s public relations officer, Mr. Tony Nezianya, responded to Okpala’s predicament by expressing gratitude for the Anambra State government’s prompt assistance in bringing Okpala back to normalcy. Recalling that Okpala had won several titles in tennis, Nezianya declared her a national treasure deserving of all the support she could receive.
“We are thrilled that the Anambra State government has taken charge of the situation, but we are deeply saddened by Tanya Okpala’s plight,” the Nigerian Olympic movement stated.
