Justice Served: The Man Responsible for Aaron Lowe’s Death Sentenced to Prison
The incident occurred at a house party in the Salt Lake City area, where Buk fatally shot Lowe and injured another woman, Fuamoli Pomale, after a fight broke out. Pomale, who was shot multiple times in her chest and neck, survived the incident but was initially in critical condition.
In March, Buk pleaded guilty to both felony charges as part of a plea deal that removed the possibility of the death penalty. At the time of his arrest, Buk was already on probation for two robberies he was convicted of in 2019, adding to a series of crimes he had been charged with since at least 2017.
Lowe, a sophomore cornerback who primarily played on special teams for the Utes, was only 21 when he was killed. His death sent shockwaves through the Utah football community, prompting fans to shine their phone flashlights after the third quarter of a game in 2021 in memory of Lowe and his teammate Ty Jordan.
Jordan, a running back who was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year during the 2020 campaign, died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound nine months before Lowe. The two were high school friends and teammates from Mesquite, Texas. Following Jordan’s death, Utah set up the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship in his honor and awarded it to Lowe in 2021. Lowe then switched his jersey number from 2 to 22 to honor his friend.
