TV Anchor in Oregon Issues an Apology for a False Dan Lanning Report
After Nick Saban’s retirement, there were a lot of speculations floating around about potential coaches the Alabama Crimson Tide may hire. Among the coaches listed was Dan Lanning of Oregon; a fabricated rumor said he was in Alabama this week.
Lanning was in Tuscaloosa as early as Wednesday night, according to Brandon Kamerman, an anchor for Eugene, Oregon’s KVAL-TV, to negotiate the position with the Crimson Tide leadership. Later, Lanning refuted the account, saying that while Kamerman claimed he was in Alabama, he was actually watching a movie at home with his family.
Still, the claim made waves online among college football fans.
On Thursday, Lanning made it clear that he was remaining at Oregon, putting a stop to any rumors linking him to Alabama. Later on the day, Kamerman expressed regret to his audience for deceiving them with an inaccurate information.
Kamerman said on television, “I take full responsibility for that information being wrong.” It wasn’t the sports squad from KVAL. Not the other members of the news crew were present. That one was my fault. I want to apologize to both our audience and my coworkers because I really do take it seriously.
Before heading to Georgia with Kirby Smart, Lanning worked under Nick Saban as a graduate assistant at Alabama for a year. In the end, Alabama decided to replace Saban with Kalen DeBoer of Washington.
