Kaizer Chiefs’ loss? In response to calls to relocate to Europe, Stanley Nwabali says, “I feel comfortable in’small place.'”
In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals, Nwabali made a name for himself by keeping four clean sheets, helping Nigeria advance to the championship game where they were defeated 2-1 by the hosts. Prospective suitors were drawn to the custodian because of his agility and high-caliber performance after he took Francis Uzoho’s spot as the Super Eagles’ starting keeper.
LARGER PICTURE
The star of Chippa United has been connected to a move to Kaizer Chiefs, who haven’t been reliable in that area lately.
The current season’s contract for Itumeleng Khune expires, and Brandon Petersen has shown inconsistent play. Currently, Cavin Johnson has Bruce Bvuma as his man in Amakhosi’s goal. Nwabali is wanted by some teams in Saudi Arabia and Europe to bolster their goalkeeping staff.
“People have been sending messages like they want me to move to Europe or they want me to move to a bigger club,” Nwabali stated to Arise News.
“I really appreciate that, but to be honest, one thing about me is that I always feel comfortable even if I’m in a small place; I don’t like to rush.”
FUTURE PLANS FOR NWABALI?
Uncomfortable rumors have surfaced suggesting that Nwabali, who assisted Nigeria in defeating Bafana in the Afcon semifinal, may struggle in the Premier Soccer League.
The 27-year-old is determined to finish the current season with his squad, though. On Saturday, Chippa is set to play Cape Town City.
