Exeter City’s manager, Gary Caldwell, applauded young Luke Harris for an incredible debut.
I couldn’t believe it. I believe everyone in this stadium could see why we’ve chased him for a long time,” Caldwell added. He told BBC Radio Devon, “He could have scored two goals in the first 10 minutes with his runs from deep.” According to him.
“But his grasp of the game, his ability out of possession to win second balls, I love to see him tackling in the middle of the pitch. His level of physicality and competitiveness in duals was unparalleled, and he skillfully navigated an early booking.
“He can be really happy with his performance, and it’s only a start, I think he can give us so much in the second half of the season.”After losing 13 consecutive league games, City have won 2 of their previous 4 matches.
Caldwell is hopeful his side’s form has finally turned a corner, having watched them slide from top of the table in September. “I think we have been excellent in the last three games over Christmas and we probably didn’t get the points tally that our performances deserve,” the 41-year-old continued.
“But all credit to the players, they didn’t take the disappointment of the result from Monday, they took the positives from the performance.”We talk a lot about process over outcome and trying to keep the players on that path so they focus on what they can do to affect results and today I thought they were great.
“The understanding of how we were going to win the game, the bravery to play, the opportunities we created, I think we could have scored more goals, and that is the step we need to take as a team that when we are on top it goes three or four-nil and the game is more comfortable. “But I felt the players were great tonight and they can take a lot from it.”
