The Mets crush three home runs and take advantage of the Marlins’ pitching to win 10-4.
The Mets, who have won seven of the last 11 games, saw Tyrone Taylor tie a career high with four hits, and Bader, Marte, and Francisco Alvarez each finished with two RBI. Following a 4-for-5 performance for the Milwaukee Brewers against the Detroit Tigers on September 9, 2020, Taylor’s four-hit game was his second of the season.
The Marlins, who have dropped seven of their last nine games, were led by Dane Myers, Emmanuel Rivera, Bryan De La Cruz, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. with RBIs
For the first time this season, Bader batted second on Wednesday. He opened the score with a two-run home run off Braxton Garrett (2-2) in the first inning.
Against David Peterson (2-0), Myers and Rivera scored runs with hits in the top of the second. After second baseman Otto Lopez’s error allowed Mark Vientos to score on an error, Alvarez and J.D. Martinez sandwiched RBI singles to give the Mets a three-run lead in the bottom half.
After De La Cruz hit an RBI double and Chisholm singled with two outs in the fifth, the Marlins took a two-run lead. However, in the bottom half of the game, Marte’s home run into the second deck in left field gave the Mets a lead.
After Vientos scored an RBI single in the seventh, Alvarez successfully ended a possible double play to increase the advantage to 8-4. After Lindor led off the ninth with a home run, Marte added an RBI single with two outs. Each of Bader, Marte, and Lindor had two hits.
Peterson struck out one batter in five innings while giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks. Over the last four innings, Reed Garrett, Jake Diekman, and Dedniel Nunez held the Marlins to just one hit. For the Marlins, Tim Anderson and Chisholm each got two hits.
