Yusuf Maart, a midfield player for Kaizer Chiefs, predicted a competitive…
The Premier Soccer League took a break during the Africa Cup of Nations, which gave the Glamour Boys ample opportunity to participate in a rigorous mini-preseason. The squad, which is now sixth in the log standings, is focused on improving its league results under interim head coach Cavin Johnson.
“We received ideas from Coach [Cavin Johnson] about how he wants us to play against every team. Everyone is prepared for the league’s restart because we put in a great effort throughout our brief preseason, Maart told Sowetan Live.
As a professional, I believe that [the fixtures postponement] shouldn’t bother you. We are mentally tough, therefore we’ve gone past the fact that the game was called off and are concentrating on our upcoming match versus Royal AM on Sunday, February 18.
“I simply need to work harder to ensure that my goals are met. I should score or assist in every game as a midfield player. As a captain, I also have an obligation to work more, be more motivated, and encourage others who are depressed around me. In my capacity as captain, I strive to lead wherever I can, and other players do the same.”
The group decided against adding any new players during the January transfer window.
Rather, they decided to stick with the current team and give the players who were signed earlier in the season an opportunity to establish themselves before thinking about adding any more players. These players will be determined to thank the club for trusting in their abilities now that their mini-preseason is over.
UP NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
On Sunday at 3:30 PM SA time, Amakhosi will play Royal AM in the league at Harry Gwala Stadium once more. Due to Bafana Bafana’s delayed return from the Afcon, the league postponed all midweek fixtures, including Chiefs’ original scheduled matchup against TS Galaxy on Tuesday, February 13.
