Steelers Sign Former Penn State QB Trace McSorley.
The 28-year-old McSorley spent the summer with the New England Patriots but was cut before the 53-man roster cutoff. After that, he briefly signed with the Chicago Bears practice squad this season.
McSorely will fill in as the team’s third quarterback while they await Kenny Pickett’s return. Following ankle surgery, Pickett is expected to miss two to four weeks of play. As a result, Mitch Trubisky will start and Mason Rudolph will backup.
For a maximum of three games, the Steelers have the option to activate or inactive McSorley and use him as their third quarterback. He can dress without having to move, and if Rudolph and Trubisky are unable to finish, he can enter the game.
The former Penn State player, who was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round, has also been drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, Patriots, and Bears.
