New: Why It Doesn’t Matter What Ofori Is Doing At Pirates
Despite his circumstances at Orlando Pirates, Richards Ofori is a vital member of the Black Stars, as Ghana’s head coach Chris Houghton has said.
Ofori, 30, is below Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi in the Pirates’ hierarchy and has only appeared in three games this season, all of which were in the CAF Champions League.
However, in their last three games before facing Cape Verde in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener, the towering stopper has been their captain and first choice.
When questioned by iDiski Times about his confidence in Ofori, Houghton responded, “What I’d like to think is that we have three goalkeepers in the squad that could all do a very good job for us, they all have different qualities.” “The goalkeeping situation has changed and become more challenging over time. While some goalkeepers are consistent at their club, others may not be as consistent yet still perform admirably for their country.
These are the factors we take into account while evaluating Richards’ attributes; he has a strong personality and is someone I would like to think because I’m limited in the amount of time I can talk… But Dede [Ayew] can talk for a longer time and say that Richard Ofori is someone who has never failed the country in terms of his work and availability.
“However, we have complete faith in each of the three goalkeepers’ abilities and performance, so I talk about them all in the same way, regardless of which one plays in the game.”
