NFL Rumors: Dan Quinn of the Cowboys will speak with Commanders for a second time next week as the HC
According to Rapoport, Quinn will meet with the Seattle Seahawks for a second interview on Thursday.
Quinn guided the Atlanta Falcons to a Super Bowl LI participation while serving as head coach from 2015 to 2020. His final regular-season record with the Falcons was 43-42.
According to Patrick Walker of DallasCowboys.com, Quinn is anticipated to take up the position he has had with the Cowboys since January 2021 if he decides not to return to a head coaching position.
The Commanders are in the process of hiring a new head coach to replace Ron Rivera, who was let go after the team’s 4-13 campaign. Under Rivera’s leadership, the squad had a 26-40-1 record in four seasons.
The hire is a component of the “sweeping overhaul” of the Commanders’ leadership that new owner Josh Harris is spearheading, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Commanders are evaluating other candidates besides Quinn to spearhead this shift. Additionally, according to reports, the organization has conducted many interviews with Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, Ben Johnson, the associate head coach of the Ravens, Anthony Weaver, the defensive line coach, and Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams.
The Commanders are one of just three NFL clubs actively seeking a new head coach, while the other five teams the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, and Tennessee Titans have already appointed new coaches.
Quinn’s options have therefore become more limited. Following interviews with the Panthers, Chargers, and Titans, he is currently considering the Commanders or Seahawks as possible destinations for his 2024 head coaching comeback.
Quinn served as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator during their consecutive Super Bowl runs in 2013 and 2014 before joining the Falcons.
The Commanders or Seahawks may be able to ignore the Cowboys’ defense’s performance in the team’s most recent 48-32 wild-card defeat to the Green Bay Packers thanks to their postseason experience.
