The Dallas Cowboys should select these ten players in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
It’s unlikely that the Dallas Cowboys will advance to choose first overall. Why would they do that? Is a quarterback needed? Among them is Dak Prescott. Is a No. 1 receiver necessary? It’s CeeDee Lamb there. Need a pass rusher, please? Have you heard of DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons?
You’ve probably heard that the Cowboys have alternatives with the No. 24 overall pick. Currently, the Cowboys have ten players they might choose from in the first round of the draft:
Troy Fautanu, a 6-4, 319-pound player from Washington
In his three seasons at Washington, he has started twenty games as a left tackle and was named All-Pac 12 the previous two seasons. Fautanu played on the left side and has the potential to move inside to guard.
Jackson Powers-Johnson C, 6-3, 320 pounds, from Oregon
According to Pro Football Focus, the Rimington Trophy winner as the finest center in college gave up only one pressure in 471 pass-blocking snaps. Powers-Johnson has filled in at center in 44 collegiate contests.
Jer’Zhan Newton, a 6-2, 295-pound DT from Illinois
the year’s top defensive player in the Big Ten. He had 52 tackles, 8 ½ tackles for loss, and 7 ½ sacks at the end of the previous campaign. He leads all defensive linemen in the country with 103 quarterback pressures over the past two seasons.
T’Vondre Sweat, a 6-4, 362-pound Texas defensive tackle
In 2023, the product of Huntsville, Texas, recorded 45 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and 18 solo stops. For his performance, he was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and the winner of the Outland Trophy. He was a Texas player for five seasons.
Jordan Morgan, a 6-4, 312-pound guard from Arizona
In 12 games the previous season, he gave up two sacks out of 787 snaps. In 2021, the invitee to the Senior Bowl briefly played left tackle. For the past two seasons, the Associated Press has named him to the first team of the Pac 12.
Junior Colson LB, 6-3, 247 pounds, Michigan
topped the club in tackles (2017) with 95 after reaching 101 in 2022. He played 43 games altogether, making 36 starts at linebacker. He led the team in tackles during a rivalry game over Ohio State, recording seven solo stops.
Zach Frazier C, 6-2, 314 pounds, from West Virginia
His season ended in November due to a broken fibula, and he played a limited role at the Senior Bowl. It’s unclear how much he’ll work out during the combine. He made 12 starts in the previous campaign, and the Associated Press named him to the All-Big 12 second team.
Tyler Guyton T, 6-7, 328 pounds, Oklahoma
Though he has also played left tackle, the TCU transfer has only made nine starts at right tackle. The NFL teams are drawn to the Manor, Texas, native because of his enormous size; some have projected him as a late first-round pick.
Nate Wiggins, a 6-2, 185-pound CB from Clemson.
He has 1,377 snaps under his belt in three seasons. He has 19 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, and 2 pick-sixes in 34 games (18 starts). Wiggins is a quick corner, so it will be interesting to see what he does in the 40.
Duke’s Graham Barton C., 5’5″, 311 lbs.
Although he has 34 starts, mostly at tackle, he also started five games at center in 2020. Since the NFL teams would almost certainly move him inside, a lot of what happens to him during the selection process will depend on how well he tests.
