NFL free agency: Should the Raiders sign offensive lineman Dalton Risner?
Although the Raiders have $19.7 million in effective cap space, Las Vegas will almost definitely address at least one of those two slots early in the 2024 NFL draft. However, they can still seek free agency to fill one of the voids.
In a recent opinion piece, Matt Holder of Bleacher Report recommended that Las Vegas pursue seasoned guard Dalton Risner.
With five years of starting experience, Risner is arguably the team’s best option right now. The only issue is that he has only ever played right guard, so Dylan Parham or he will have to alternate centers, but at least the Silver and Black now have another excellent player in the trenches.
Without a doubt, one of the best interior linemen available now is Risner. The issue is that Dylan Parham, a starter for the Raiders right now, has only ever played left guard during his career.
The idea that a seasoned player like Risner may change sides if necessary is by no means absurd. Furthermore, Parham did see 110 snaps at right guard in his rookie season, so there are a few ways to make this work, even if it’s best to avoid moving a young player who is still growing to a different position.
The Raiders should bring in Risner and then address right tackle in the draft since they are facing the prospect of having to start Jordan Meredith, who has only made one career start.
