North Carolina basketball reaches out to top transfer portal player
Just a week after their season ended in the Sweet 16 against Alabama, North Carolina contacted Belmont wing Cade Tyson, as reported by Inside Carolina. Tyson hails from Monroe, North Carolina, and is recognized for his exceptional shooting skills, making him one of the most sought-after shooters in the transfer portal.
His impressive performance led to him being named the 2022–23 MVC freshman of the year with an average of 13.6 points per game, and he followed it up with a 2023–24 season where he averaged 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Tyson maintained an impressive three-point shooting percentage at 46.5% last season.
According to Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan, Tyson has already garnered significant interest from numerous high-major schools following his entry into the portal:
“In the immediate days following his portal announcement, Tyson received interest from a bevy of major high schools, including Arkansas, Wisconsin, and others.”
With Harrison Ingram potentially exploring NBA draft options, North Carolina could be eyeing Tyson to fill a critical need on their perimeter lineup—especially if Ingram returns.
Given what Cormac Ryan brought to UNC as a perimeter shooter last season, securing a player like Tyson would greatly enhance their lineup for next season.
