After a suspension, experienced goalie Itumeleng Khune is welcomed back by Kaizer Chiefs.
Khune was required to take part in a number of programs designed to help him become more disciplined as part of his ban.
Khune was placed on early December suspension in order to give him time to finish a corrective programme that was intended to help him reach the standards expected of a professional athlete. In order to prove that he had fulfilled all requirements, the technical team was given a report by an impartial group of experts once the program was finished, according to the Chiefs statement.
Khune was also granted permission by Kaizer Chiefs to be a member of the SABC Sport panel of commentators for the recent Africa Cup of Nations in January and February. Hopefully, the experience he got from the activity would help him in the future. The statement concluded, “As Kaizer Chiefs, we welcome Its back to the place he has called home for more than 25 years and we stay committed to our basic principles of discipline, honesty, respect, and unity.
Khune’s misbehavior happened while his professional career was coming to a close and as he had reclaimed the team’s top shirt.
In addition, the Glamour Boys have been battling a host of issues, such as the lack of a permanent coach and difficulties putting an end to a protracted trophy drought.
The seasoned goalie will compete with Bruce Bvuma, who has kept eight clean sheets since taking the starting jersey, for a spot in the squad. Still, he wants to lead the Chiefs on and off the field as they try to maintain a decent place in the Premier Soccer League.
