Press Release: Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Set to Play Against Panthers
Alexander hurt his shoulder while diving to block up a pass against the Los Angeles Rams on November 5. He’s been practicing in a limited capacity for over a month, but he’s still missed six games in a row. Alexander, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, was designated as restricted in practice on all three days this week by the Packers. LaFleur has previously stated that tackling is a factor in Alexander’s inability to return to the field.
The Packers, who need to win out to have a chance at the postseason, could benefit from Alexander’s return. Carrington Valentine, Eric Stokes, and Keisean Nixon all struggled in coverage in last week’s 34-20 loss to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Due to the lack of a top corner, defensive coordinator Joe Barry relied on heavy zone coverage to limit Mike Evans and was slashed by Chris Godwin and others.
This season, the Panthers have struggled with their passing game. Veteran Adam Thielen, newcomer Jonathan Mingo, and deep threat D.J. Chark are the team’s primary wide receivers.
Alexander’s status on Sunday won’t be known until 90 minutes before kickoff, or around 10:30 a.m. CT, when the inactive list is released. In 2023, Alexander has missed nine of fourteen games. This season, he dealt with a back issue. Alexander went to Rocky River High School in Charlotte, the Panthers’ hometown.
