Makar narrowly misses matching Orr, Pastrnak scores a hat trick, and the Bruins stop Avalanche.
The Boston Bruins defeated the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 on Thursday night thanks to two goals from David Pastrnak late in the third period. Pastrnak also scored on the first shift.
The Bruins, who had won their previous 12 games 8-1-3, added goals from Jake DeBrusk and Jakub Lauko to complete their winning streak at three games.
With his assist for the Avalanche, Cale Makar was only one point away from becoming the fastest defenseman to achieve 300 points in his career, a record held by Hall of Famer Bobby Orr. Orr achieved it on December 13, 1970, in his 279th game. Makar, who currently has 299 points, participated in his 279th game on Thursday.
Miles Wood and Nathan MacKinnon scored goals for Colorado, who dropped their only defeat in 14 games. Boston’s Jeremy Swayman made thirty saves. First-time All-Star Alexandar Georgiev saved 26 shots in his 37th start of the season for the Avalanche, leading the league.
