See Bryan Rincon and Eduardo Tait, Two Phillies Prospects, in 2024. Going into the 2024 minor league season, the Philadelphia Phillies have their sights set on these two young players.
Does that imply, though, that any of those players will become major league stars in 2024?The query posed to Phillies insider Matt Gelb of The Athletic earlier this week is an intriguing one. Although the question wasn’t specifically about the Spring Breakout, it might have been, given who the Phillies choose to play.
Gelb claims that the Phillies are optimistic about two prospects. One is shortstop Bryan Rincon, who played for High Class-A Jersey Shore at the end of the 2023 season. Given that MLB.com ranks Rincon as the Phillies’ No. 28 prospect, it is possible that he will play in the game.
In his first full minor league season, Rincon played with Class-A Clearwater and Jersey Shore last year, where he slashed.234/.368/.361/.729 with eight home runs and 52 RBI. He was drafted by the Phillies in the fourteenth round of the 2022 draft out of Pittsburgh’s Shaler Area High School. MLB.com projects him as a 2026 call-up even though he is not yet 20. His ability to switch-hit is one feature of his game that draws people in.
The other prospect may be at Spring Training in March, but he is currently overseas. The No. 23 prospect for the Phillies is Eduardo Tait, a catcher who isn’t even 18 years old.
With both of the Phillies’ Dominican Summer League teams, the Panamanian international signee participated in his first professional season in 2023 and slashed.333/.400/.517/.917 with three home runs and 36 RBI in 44 games. Tait’s next move could be to play for the Florida Complex League team of the Phillies or, if the organization is feeling particularly aggressive, Clearwater.
The Phillies will have additional options in their infield over the next few seasons if these two prospects develop as they are expected to.
