G League Star Signs a 10-Day Contract with the Raptors
The majority of the season has been spent by 6-foot-3 point guard Carton, a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ G League franchise, the Iowa Wolves. He’s averaged 18.6 points, 5.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game while playing for the Wolves in 29 games this season. In terms of efficiency, he makes 4.4 attempts per game at three-point range, hitting 39.5% from three-point range. He also boasts an amazing 60% effective field goal percentage, which takes into consideration the extra weight that three-point shots carry.
Carton, 23, had his collegiate career at Ohio State and Marquette before being undrafted in 2021. During his career, he has not yet participated in any NBA action.
For the next five games, through the beginning of next month, Toronto will examine Carton. Although it’s unlikely that he will play a significant role for the Raptors, he will have ten days to show himself in practice.
He gives Toronto some insurance in case Immanuel Quickley needs a vacation. Toronto’s backcourt has been severely depleted since Dennis Schröder’s departure at the trade deadline. After Bruce Brown Jr. comes off the bench, Carton should be the backup option alongside Markquis Nowell and Javon Freeman-Liberty.
There is currently one slot on the Raptors’ roster that is unoccupied.
