This season, the offensive woes of the New Orleans Saints have been extensively reported. With quarterback Derek Carr having failed to throw a touchdown pass in the previous two games, fans and commentators have begun to focus on him more and more.
Despite playing a lot fewer snaps, Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston have both scored touchdowns from the quarterback position during that period.
Rob Gronkowski, a former tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, is an NFL legend who recently joined the discussion. During a recent interview on the Up & Adams program with host Kay Adams, he said the following:
Derek Carr lacks consistency in his interactions. Gronk pondered. Given the uneven play, you would need to address that problem and determine whether Jameis Winston should start at quarterback.
And I would say that, in a way, it has been his whole career. He always seems like he’s going to help you win, but then he makes that terrible throw.
Carr and the Saints offense have struggled mightily with consistency, particularly when it comes to the red zone.
They failed to score 24, 19, and 15 points in the games that followed after defeating the Indianapolis Colts by 38 points a few weeks earlier.
It has been annoying to watch for weeks when players have been able to drive down the field but stall when it matters most. It will be interesting to watch if this leadership genuinely wants to make any improvements.
They haven’t done anything but advocate for Carr to start at quarterback thus far.
