Pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays takes a leave of absence after his son is hit by a car.
Schneider continued, “Toby was airlifted to a nearby hospital.”
The Blue Jays manager released a statement saying, “Toby is on the road to recovery and is surrounded by his family thanks to the incredible work from Clearwater first responders.”
“Family comes first, so Erik will be away from the team for a while.” We send Erik, Madison, Toby, and the Swanson family our love and prayers. We will not be commenting on this any further out of respect for Erik and his family.”
Before the Blue Jays’ 6-0 victory over the New York Yankees in Canada on September 28, Toby and Tim Mayza’s son ceremoniously threw out the first pitch.
Schneider stated on the club website, “As a dad, I have two boys who are seven and five, and it hits home.” “You know, baseball is just baseball. You offer up prayers. You want for success. Fortunately, thus far, that has been the situation. You become aware of how swiftly things can alter. You don’t consider anything to be given.
The Seattle Mariners sent 30-year-old Swanson to Toronto in November 2022.
Swanson finished 2023, his first season with the Blue Jays, with a 4-2 record, four saves, and a 2.97 ERA. In 69 games, he struck out 75 batters in 66 2/3 innings.
Schneider said, “We will be there for them going forward.
When it comes to family and life, baseball takes a backseat. We will be there for him. So far, the boys have been nothing short of amazing with him, and you also can’t overlook the spouses and significant others of the players who have also reached out. Though it’s been difficult these past few days, it’s wonderful to see everyone standing by Erik.
