Sean McVay, the coach of the Rams, is unconcerned with the playoff seeding.
For Sunday’s regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams are choosing to rest some of their players, including quarterback Matthew Stafford, receiver Cooper Kupp, and defensive tackle Aaron Donald, knowing that they are in no matter what.
The Rams still have a chance, in contrast to their opponent who has already secured the first seed in the NFC. With a victory over San Francisco, Los Angeles, who presently owns the sixth seed, will guarantee that position. But the Rams would drop to the seventh seed if they lost and the Green Bay Packers won.
Rams coach Sean McVay isn’t very concerned about his team’s final position, even if they haven’t locked up their seed yet.
According to the forecasts, McVay told reporters, “I think they are excellent teams regardless.” There are several levels to it, and upon closer inspection, we’ve just concluded that this strategy is the most effective for our group. You want to see guys go compete and win, but that’s not how we felt, regardless of whether… I am aware of the potential outcomes.Everything happens, and even if you believe you know, you actually don’t, do you?
“Given everything, I didn’t think it was optimal for our team to try to maintain the sixth or know you could be the seventh.”
None of the three teams the Rams could draw—the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Detroit Lions will be an easy matchup. They haven’t played the Lions yet, but they have already lost to the Cowboys and Eagles this season. It would be a bittersweet matchup between Matthew Stafford of Los Angeles and Jared Goff of Detroit.
