Shohei has been spotted? Blue Jays are the subject of much speculation.
“Everybody has me in four different places, it’s so funny,” said Atkins on MLB Network Radio. “The best part was getting text messages from other GMs.” Everyone is speculating and making educated guesses.”
Mark Derosa on rumors about Ohtani
Overnight, Ken Rosenthal reported that the Blue Jays were believed to have met with Ohtani and his representatives at the club’s Spring Training complex in Dunedin, Fla., the crown jewel of their recent splurge. Until now, Ohtani’s negotiations have been fiercely private, much like the superstar himself, but that is changing.
Los Angeles and Toronto are leading a race to the finish line, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts disclosed Tuesday afternoon that his team had recently met with Ohtani. Roberts told reporters, “We met with Shohei and we talked, and I think it went well.” “But at the end of the day he’s his own man and he’s going to do what’s best for himself, [go] where he feels most comfortable.”
Schneider about the Blue Jays’ winter
All of those sentiments are shared by Blue Jays manager John Schneider, who avoided answering many of the probing questions about the team’s interest in Ohtani on Tuesday by speaking in generalities about the once-in-a-lifetime talent at the center of it all.
Schneider remarked, “I think what he does is obviously unique to the sport.” He is a pitcher, hitter, and sprinter. Clearly, you always know when he is going to appear in the order, making him dangerous in the box. An ability the game hasn’t seen in a long time, if at all.
