On Sunday, at the Open de Rouen in France, American tennis player Sloane Stephens won her first WTA trophy since the 2022 season.
In the final on Sunday, Stephens—whose fame surged after winning the 2017 U.S. Open—beat Magda Linette of Poland in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, in a mere two hours and ten minutes.
In February 2022, Stephens won a winner’s trophy at the last competition, which was held in Abierto Akron Zapopan, Mexico. Although it is her fifth WTA 250 championship, the Open de Rouen victory is her eighth career professional tennis triumph. Stephens, who is 31 years old, returned to the winner’s circle. Her triumph on Sunday was also her first on clay since the Charleston, South Carolina, Volvo Car Open in 2016.
Following her opponent’s handshake, Stephens grinned broadly. She was obviously thrilled to have another tennis trophy added to her collection.
Before competing in the 2024 French Open, which gets underway in Paris on May 20, Stephens will probably participate in a few competitions.
