A South African football player from Kaizer Chiefs was killed, and six people were arrested.
The “suspects are part of a syndicate that is responsible for car hijackings” in the Gauteng province, according to the police.
More suspects are still being actively sought for by investigators. On Monday, police announced that they had found the footballer’s stripped automobile. According to officials, Mr. Fleurs was approached by unidentified gunmen at the gas station while he was waiting for assistance and they gave him the order to exit the car.
He was then shot once in the upper torso, according to the police, by one of the accused.
One of the most well-liked teams in South Africa and a 12-time league champion, Kaizer Chiefs, called his passing “tragic”.
Mr. Fleurs, a former player for SuperSport United, joined Kaizer Chiefs last year. At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, the former Under-23 international competed on behalf of South Africa. “Saddened that yet another life has been cut short due to violent crime,” stated Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa.
On Friday, the suspects are anticipated to appear in court.
