Volunteers swarm Highmark Stadium to assist with snow shoveling before of the Bills vs. Steelers wild card playoff game.
Due to strong snowstorms, the game was moved to Monday.
The playoff match between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Buffalo Bills was postponed over the weekend; the teams will attempt to play on Monday. A travel ban has been implemented due to the recent heavy snowfall in the western New York area, which totaled several inches.
In an effort to clear the snow off Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, volunteers and clean-up workers are putting in endless hours as kickoff approaches.
The Bills began soliciting volunteers for the snow clearing effort on Friday. In order to prepare the Bills’ home stadium for Monday’s 4:30 p.m. ET start, the team was paying volunteers $20 per hour in addition to free meals.
In order to prepare for the game, the Bills once again requested volunteers to assist in clearing snow from the stands on Monday. The Bills versus. Steelers game is now planned for a 4:30 p.m. EST kickoff. The Weather Channel reports that the snow will not start to clear up until 12:00 local time on Monday morning in Orchard Park.
Andy Major, vice president of operations for the Bills, explained the team’s strategy to CBS News on clearing off all the snow.”We have a plan of snow removal of what we call ‘bringing the seats,’ where we spray a solution on the snow in the seats to help turn it into a much safer situation of slush,” Major stated.
Before kickoff, Major said, they could clear any more snow using tractors. In order to remove as much snow as is humanly feasible, cleanup personnel are anticipated to work nonstop until Monday afternoon.
When one shirtless fan went down a conveyor line that the staff had set up to speed up the cleanup procedure, several Bills supporters had a little bit of fun.
