Stephen Vogt, a former Braves catcher, is back in Atlanta managing the Guardians.
Vogt’s baseball journey began in 2007 when he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays. However, it was with the Oakland Athletics that Vogt made his mark in the Major Leagues. Known for his versatility and leadership behind the plate, Vogt quickly became a fan favorite in Oakland. Yet, it was during his time with the Atlanta Braves that Vogt’s bond with the city deepened.
In 2018, Vogt joined the Braves as a mid-season acquisition, bringing his veteran presence to a team poised for a playoff run. Though his tenure in Atlanta was brief, Vogt left a lasting impression on his teammates and the Braves faithful. His work ethic, determination, and infectious personality endeared him to all who crossed his path.
Now, several years later, Vogt returns to Atlanta, not in the familiar colors of the Braves, but as the skipper of the Cleveland Guardians. It’s a role that Vogt didn’t anticipate early in his career, but one that feels like a natural progression for the seasoned ballplayer.
“I never imagined myself as a manager when I was playing,” Vogt admitted in a recent press conference. “But as I’ve grown in the game, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of leadership, both on and off the field.”
Vogt’s transition from player to manager mirrors the paths of many former athletes who find themselves drawn to coaching after their playing days are over. For Vogt, the decision to pursue a career in coaching was influenced by his passion for the game and his desire to mentor the next generation of players.
“I’ve been fortunate to learn from some incredible coaches and managers throughout my career,” Vogt said. “Now, I hope to pay it forward and help guide young players as they navigate the challenges of professional baseball.”
Vogt’s appointment as the Guardians’ manager represents a new chapter in his baseball journey, one filled with both excitement and challenges. As he takes the reins of a young and promising team, Vogt is well aware of the responsibilities that come with the job.
“Managing a Major League team is no easy task,” Vogt acknowledged. “But I’m confident in my abilities and the talent of our players. Together, we’ll work hard to bring a championship back to Cleveland.”
For Vogt, returning to Atlanta as a manager is a homecoming of sorts. Though he will be leading the opposing team, Vogt is eager to reconnect with the city and its passionate baseball fans.
“Atlanta will always hold a special place in my heart,” Vogt said. “The memories I made here as a player are ones I’ll cherish forever. Now, I look forward to creating new memories as a manager.”
As Vogt embarks on this new chapter of his baseball career, he does so with the full support of his family, friends, and former teammates. His wife and children have been his biggest cheerleaders throughout his journey, and Vogt is grateful for their unwavering support.
“My family means everything to me,” Vogt said. “Their love and encouragement have been the driving force behind my career, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
As Vogt settles into his new role as manager of the Guardians, he knows that the road ahead will be filled with ups and downs. But with his experience, leadership, and passion for the game, Vogt is ready to face whatever challenges come his way.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead this team,” Vogt said. “Together, we’ll work tirelessly to achieve our goals and make our fans proud. The journey starts now, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
