Reasons Why the 49ers Might Make It Back to the Super Bowl in the Next Season or Not
1. A novel defense coordinator.
Even though Steve Wilks was the defensive coordinator and the players weren’t always giving it their all, the 49ers defense allowed only 17.5 points per game last season, which was third fewest in the NFL. Other than Wilks being an outsider and the players not knowing him, it’s difficult to determine why the players didn’t buy into him.
However, it’s remarkable that they managed to finish third in terms of points allowed in spite of a difficult working relationship with their coordinator. The 49ers should now appoint a player the players will be motivated to play hard for.
2. An enhanced offensive lineup.
Since Trent Brown was traded for Mike McGlinchey in 2018, the 49ers’ offensive line’s right side has been their weak point. They have a first round pick for the first time since 2021, and they should use it on an offensive lineman because Trent Williams is aging. This is their chance to turn that line into a strength.
3. Young players who have improved.
Although the 49ers’ nucleus is becoming older, they still have young players like Deommodore Lenoir, Spencer Burford, Ji’Ayir Brown, Brandon Aiyuk, Aaron Banks, and Brock Purdy who should become better next season.
The 49ers have a good chance of making it back to the Super Bowl the following season, but there are also some reasons why they shouldn’t. These are the reasons why.
During the previous season, the 49ers were as healthy as they could be. Their leading running back and quarterback were healthy heading into the Super Bowl, and they had nearly full strength on their roster for the first time in a long time. Most likely, that was an anomaly.
The players that may sustain injuries are hard to predict, but one thing we do know is that Dre Green law, who just suffered an Achilles tear, may miss part or all of the next campaign. ACL tears are also coming off for Talanoa Hufanga, and many important players are 30 years of age or older.
2. The NFL will improve.
Although the 49ers were undoubtedly the greatest NFC club in 2018, they fell short of the predictions made by bookmakers as they struggled to defeat the Packers and Lions in the playoffs. For most of those games, the 49ers were behind.
Given that they are young clubs with cap room, both Green Bay and Detroit ought to improve the next season. The Seahawks recently hired a new head coach, and the Cardinals and Rams are rapidly rebuilding, so all the teams in the NFC West should also be better.
3. There will be more of a schedule.
In addition to the Cowboys and the Rams twice, the 49ers will face the Chiefs, Bills, Lions, Packers, Dolphins, and Vikings. It’s quite harsh.
