What Could the Reds Get in a Potential Jonathan India Trade With the Blue Jays?
There isn’t much here to start with. Baseball Trade Values estimates that India is worth slightly more than $12 million. Only two of the Blue Jays players are paid between $12 million and $21 million, out of the team’s six players who earn $12 million or more. Is this anything where Nick Krall assembles an India-centric package? That’s not what he’s thinking here, in my opinion. Presumably, there will be no commerce at all or only trade for India.
Alek Manoah and India may theoretically be traded one for the other by the Reds. Due to his lackluster 2023 season for Toronto, the right-hander has been the subject of numerous trade rumors. Manoah is valued at little under $12 million according to Baseball Trade Values, so a one-for-one trade would be possible, but would the Reds benefit from it?
Manoah started 31 games in 2022, but only 19 games in 2023. His 5.87 ERA and his unspectacular results don’t bode well for him. He gave out an absurd 6.08 walks every nine innings. His fastball average velocity fell by a mile an hour.
Manoah has a history of strong pitching, so there’s a good chance he recovers. There is plenty of power over the team because he won’t even be eligible for arbitration for another year. India is a potential rebound candidate as well, but to what degree?
Really, the only other realistic players in a possible Blue Jays-India trade that excites me are these guys.Though neither player truly changes the needle, you could imagine the Reds acquiring an outfielder like Daulton Varsho or considering a switch to catcher if they acquired Danny Jansen.
At the moment, the Blue Jays are also not exactly overflowing with prospects. Only two of their prospects were ranked among Baseball America’s Top 100.India would be worth more to the Reds in 2024 as a member than they would be in any feasible trade with the Blue Jays.
