The Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners are reportedly interested in the former AL home run champion.
Teams interested in Soler include the Mariners, who would lose (Teoscar) Hernández from their lineup unless they unexpectedly reunite. Soler would provide much-needed power to Seattle’s lineup. According to insiders, the D-backs, Blue Jays, and Red Sox are also interested in the 2021 World Series MVP, providing Soler with a sizable market.
It makes reasonable that Seattle would be considering hiring Soler given his background. Due to the probable departure of Hernandez as well as the trades of Eugenio Suarez and Jarred Kelenic this winter, Feinsand points out that they have voids in their lineup.
The team may still make a lot of use for him, but they did just add Mitch Haniger and Luke Raley through trades, so we’ll see if that affects their interest level.
In terms of Toronto, Brandon Belt’s departure has created a need at designated hitter. In the outfield, they have Kevin Kiermaier, George Springer, and Daulton Varsho. However, they may use Soler in a DH/outfield rotation. Toronto would still have one of the greatest lineups in the league if Soler, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were all included.
Last season, Soler hit 36 home runs for the Miami Marlins, an offensively poor team. He could perform in Seattle and Toronto as well if he can fit into that group.
The soon-to-be 32-year-old also had 48 home runs during the Royals’ 2019 season. The American League was led by that. In addition, he has won two World Series and could offer playoff experience to any team.
