Georgia Defense Leads the Way in Average Points Permitted During a Five-Year Period
Few things on the other team are as intimidating in the game of football as a highly skilled defense. As a participant in some of the most notable defenses in sports history, Kirby Smart is the person with the greatest knowledge about this.
Although strong defenses are essential in college football, the Georgia Bulldogs’ defense has excelled in recent years. Not only did the Bulldogs’ defense win two national titles and three consecutive 12-0 regular seasons, but it also allowed an average of only 14.1 points per game during the preceding five seasons.
During the five years between 2019 and 2023, this average is the lowest that any collegiate team has permitted. The Michigan Wolverines in 2023 and the Bulldogs in 2021 were the other two teams on the list to win a national title during this period.
A team’s ability to win national titles has traditionally depended heavily on its defense, and this statistic shows that the Bulldogs have been the gold standard in college football for a long time and probably will be for many more seasons to come.
