Emmanuel Moseley re-signs with the Lions for a one-year contract in order to provide depth at cornerback. The Top 6 QB Prospects Chris Simms Sees For The 2024 Draft
After returning from a knee injury in Week 5, the 27-year-old Moseley made his Lions debut. However, he would later suffer a second consecutive season-ending knee injury.
Before agreeing to a $6 million, one-year contract in Detroit about a year ago, he had an interception in each of his final four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, where he started 33 of 45 games from 2018 to 2022.
Lions general manager Brad Holmes had already re-signed kicker Michael Badgley, backup tight end Shane Zylstra, and special teams standout Jalen Reeves-Maybin to keep them off the market in free agency.
The Top 6 QB Prospects Chris Simms Sees For The 2024 Draft
There is so much quality at the quarterback position in the 2024 NFL Draft that it is challenging to determine who the top prospects are. If you were to ask 100 people to list their top six prospects, each person’s response would be different.
Former NFL quarterback and NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms has released his rating, and it is noticeably lower than Drake Maye’s, who is expected to go second overall. Drake Maye is ranked sixth, behind Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., and J.J. McCarthy.Simms made sure to divide his rankings into tiers to distinguish Maye as a “talented project,” but you never know when it comes to media rankings if commentators issue lists like these to fan the flame and increase conversation.
Although Maye has put up eye-catching stats the last two years and was explosive at North Carolina in 2022, there are still concerns about his accuracy.
In terms of honors, he is unquestionably a step below the other five players on this list: Bo Nix, who started more college games than any other quarterback in history, J.J. McCarthy, who won a national championship, Penix Jr., who was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, and Williams and Daniels, who both have Heisman trophies.
While it’s not a bad idea to refer to Maye as a bit of a project, it seems excessive to argue that he should be the sixth quarterback selected.
For comparison, last year, Simms ranked C.J. Stroud as the top quarterback prospect, which proved to be a wonderful pick. However, Will Levis was placed sixth in this Drake Maye area, behind Hendon Hooker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
