Collin Gillespie of the Nuggets is the December G League Player of the Month.
The G League announced on Wednesday that rookie Colin Gillespie of the Denver Nuggets was selected the Player of the Month for the games he played with the Grand Rapids Gold in December.
In six games in December, Gillespie who is under a two-way contract averaged 21.7 points, 11.7 assists, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals while shooting 37.8% from three-point range. On December 10, he recorded a triple-double and finished the month with more assists than any other player.
In December, the Villanova guard who was not selected by the NBA scored twenty points in four of his games with the Gold, including a career-high thirty-two points, nine rebounds, and nine assists on December 29 in a victory over the Westchester Knicks.
After five seasons at Villanova, Gillespie was not selected in the 2022 NBA Draft. Due to a summertime leg fracture and ankle dislocation, he was unable to play last season. While healing from the injury, he played under a two-way deal for the entire year.
Despite the setback, the team decided to keep him for the 2018 season since they think he has a promising future. After being re-signed in July on a two-way contract, he played in the summer league full time and averaged 7.8 points, 4.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.4 steals in five games.
With the Gold this season, Gillespie is averaging 19.4 points, 10.5 assists, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.3 steals while shooting 46.5% from the field. He is one of ten players this season to record a triple-double, and he presently leads the G League in assists.
